This is the first time I have ever really put a video to the music I have created, so it was a fun new experience. To create the video I first created a beat. I decided to make the song in Am with an aeolian mode. I chose a pretty slow tempo of 87 bpm to match the slow flow and low energy feeling of quarantine. I picked a really basic drum beat called "Leave Space," which I just realized is kinda ironic considering the circumstances we are currently in. Next I added a cool reversed piano loop that worked well with the drums. To finish off the simple song I recorded some basic melodies using a Zither keyboard. In making the video I began with a clip of the inside of a jail cell with light shining in, to represent the isolated feeling of quarantine and the longing to go back to the normal world. For the rest of the video I picked clips of empty swings slowly and ominously swinging on their own. I feel like this is a good representation of the quarantine feeling in several ways. With public places being closed, all the playgrounds are abandoned. The clips make what is normally a lively and high energy place feel eerie and lonely, which is how most public places feel like at this time. In fact, it kind of describes the way that I, and many others, often feel at this time. This project helped me learn about modes and video creation.
